Learning takes places through a variety of channels, I've tried to design my courses with creative assessment options that reflect Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences through individual presentation projects- we each have our own measure of genius, "Gardner theorizes that people do not have just an intellectual capacity, but have many kinds of intelligence, including musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, bodily-kinesthetic, natural, musical, spatial-visual, and linguistic intelligences." What kind of intelligence do you have?
Charlotte Mason said it best, “Children must have books, living books; the best are not too good for them; anything less than the best is not good enough.” I've designed many of my courses to reflect literature and content which comes designed to uplift, edify and enrich the readers. You can find many such great booklists and resources through the Well Educated Mind, Good and the Beautiful, Simply Charlotte Mason, TJEd and Well Educated Heart. Step it up a notch and be a part of the Great Conversation!
I agree with Mark Twain, “I have never let schooling get in the way of my own education.” Learning shouldn't come in a nicely packaged box, I prefer wrapping it in the proper mixture of play, good literature, curiosity, discovery and love! Learning doesn't just occur because we are within the walls of an accredited educational facility- I believe curiosity, application, creation and discovery and challenge can more often be nurtured outside of the box! Several years ago, we took advantage of our nomadic lifestyle and went sailing for six months- a challenge for all of us, but it was the best decision we ever made.
